Derawan, Sangalaki, Maratua & Kakhaban Island
The Derawan Islands is part of CORAL TRIANGLE, located in the Sulawesi Sea on the coasterl shelf of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. An unforgettable experience when you decided to visit this island - see the richest marine biodiversity on earth. It is recommended to fly to BERAU to reach the Derawan islands. The flight can be accessed from most big cities in Indonesia. It is advisable at least to stay 4 Days 3 Nights to explore the islands and DANAU LABUAN CERMIN (mirror lake).
Day 1: ARRIVAL BERAU – DERAWAN ISLAND
Recommended to arrive at KALIMARAU Airport Berau before 12 noon to catch the boat. You are transferred to TANJUNG BATU port (takes about 2.5-3 hrs) to sail to DERAWAN ISLAND (takes about 30 minutes). Have a rest or just strolling in the island. If you are lucky, you can see turtles producing eggs or release baby turtles to the sea. You may experience to stay at WATER COTTAGE for your accommodation
Day 2: DERAWAN – LABUAN CERMIN – DERAWAN
After breakfast – sail to DANAU LABUAN CERMIN (Mirror Lake) – about 3 hours. The most wonderful thing is about its water – it is so clear like a mirror until you cannot see the boundary between SALT WATER and FRESH WATER in one lake. We call it the lake with the two tastes.
Day 3: ISLAND HOPPING
After breakfast, start explore the island. MARATUA, KAKABAN islands – has numbers of non poisonous jellyfish in its lagoon, starfish, and coral reef. You can also swim with those jellyfish, these creatures have lost their sting. SANGALAKI island to see MANTA RAYS – sort of unpoisoned stingray fish. Return to Derawan Island after exploring this hidden Paradise islands.
Day 4: DERAWAN - BERAU DEPARTURE
After breakfast – we take you to see some souvenirs of the islands – then we transfer you back to BERAU for your next destination.
