Tugu Pahlawan

Tugu means monument and Pahlawan means Heroes. It becomes an unforgettable icon for Surabaya people particularly. The tower height is 40.5 meters, consists of 10 curves and 11 parts. These figures indicate a historical meaning to Indonesian as on 10th November 1945 the Indonesian people had a fierce battle against the Dutch. To commemorate the heroes who died in this battle, the Governor built this monument on a piece of 1.3 hectares land – located just walking distance from Governor’s Office.

 

House of Sampoerna

This Dutch colonial-style compound was built in 1862. Previously used as an orphanage managed by the Dutch. This building then was purchased by Mr Liem Seeng Tee‚ the founder of Sampoerna‚ with the intent of it being used as Sampoerna’s first major cigarette product. Visitors can closely see the tobacco and clove processing‚ blending‚ hand-rolling and packaging‚ printing and finished goods processing – done by majority women workers. Today‚ the compound is still functioning as a production plant for Indonesia’s most prestigious cigarette‚ DJI SAM SOE (234).

 

MONKASEL

MONKASEL (Monumen Kapal Selam = Submarine Monument)
Visitor can see a real KRI Pasopati 410 type Whiskey Class Russia submarine used in 1952 by Indonesian Navy in the battle of LAUT ARU (Aru sea) to release the Irian Barat (now Papua) from the colonial occupation.
